Glass Harmony: After Carol Marine
Another Master Study in Preparation for My Carol Marine Workshop
This painting, Glass Harmony: After Carol Marine, features three glass jars in soft shades of blue and green, each catching the light in different ways. One holds a single orangish-yellow bloom—a small but radiant focal point that brings warmth to the cool palette.
In studying this composition, I was especially drawn to how Carol balances transparency, reflection, and color relationships so effortlessly. Painting glass is always a lesson in subtlety—what to suggest, what to leave out—and this piece challenged me to stay loose and intentional with every brushstroke.
As I continue preparing for Carol’s workshop in Portland this May, each of these studies helps me better understand her expressive approach to everyday objects. There’s so much beauty in the simple things when seen through the right lens.
